The Badlands landscape boasts a maze of buttes, canyons, pinnacles and spires. Skeletons of three-toed horses and saber-toothed cats are among the many fossilized species found here. Wildlife abounds in the park’s 244,000 acres along the Badlands Loop Scenic Byway . . . buffalo/bison, bighorn sheep, antelope, Prairie Dogs, coyotes, badgers, burrowing owls and more.
We tour in our Ford Transit full size van and Honda Odyssey minivan both with comfortable seats, huge windows and cold AC . . . making many stops for restrooms andphoto ops. There is a short hike at the Window/Door Trail (not required) and a tour of the Ben Riefel Museum. We also visit Wall Drug Store (5 Cent Coffee and Free Ice Water) and a tour of the Minuteman Missile Center - Delta 6 Silo (Not Open Mon/Tues).
