​The Badlands landscape boasts a maze of buttes, canyons, pinnacles and spires. Skeletons of three-toed horses and saber-toothed ​cats are among the many fossilized species found here. Wildlife abounds in the park’s 244,000 acres along the Badlands Loop Scenic Byway . . . buffalo/bison, bighorn sheep, antelope, prairie dogs, coyotes, badgers, burrowing owls and more. 

​​What makes our tours differ from others?
Open-Top offers the only Jeep excursions to lesser known and out of the way Badlands locations. Some of the trails may be rough (not dangerous) but will provide you with wonderful scenic viewing and natural wildlife habitat in the Park.​​
Our tours are designed for couples, families and small groups.
This is not a rock-crawler tour nor a milk-toast bus ride. It's an educational Fun Tour!

Standard Itinerary -

Various starting times available. We recommend a reasonable early departure between 7am and 8am.  Here is an itinerary based on an 8:00am start.
8:00am Depart Rapid City
9:30am Sheep Mtn Table (South Park)
​​10:00am Ghost Town Scenic stop for photos
11:00am Door Trail*
11:30am Ben Riefel Center
12;00pm Picnic Lunch (included) 
12:15pm Badlands Loop Road (stops at best overlooks)
1:15pm Rim Road  with Prairie Dogs and Overlooks*
2:00pm Sage Creek Campsite (wildlife watering hole) 
3:30pm  Return Rapid City
